Following recent market volatility, here’s a quick look at the current trend of Cumulative Price for each region.
as expected, Administered Pricing has ended in NSW at 04:00 on Wednesday 15th May 2024
A short (early afternoon) look at the progression of Cumulative Price in NSW, almost 7 days after the evening volatility on Tuesday 7th May 2024 started the climb to the Cumulative Price Threshold.
At 19:55 (NEM time) on Wednesday 8th May 2024, the NSW region commenced Administered Pricing for ENERGY and 10 x FCAS commodities, following a rapid spell of spot price volatility.
Blasting past 3 hours this afternoon/evening (and still counting), the run of spot price volatility in NSW drives the Cumulative Price up towards the CPT. Will it break the cap this evening, or tomorrow?
In a rare occurrence (and perhaps a sign of the times), we noted that the cumulative price in SA turned negative yesterday afternoon.
Another high profile report that’s been released this week is today’s Reliability Standard and Settings Review (from the Reliability Panel)… flagging some changes to settings from 1st July 2025, and some further changes after that time.
This morning (Tue 5th july 2022) AEMO announces it may see the need to trigger Reserve Trader this evening.

With all regions of the NEM having been suspended by AEMO on Wednesday 15th June 2022, guest author Allan O’Neil takes an initial look at what’s visible in terms of operations in the NEM.
Despite it being overtaken by today’s Market Suspension, with its own compensation arrangements – still might be useful for readers to be aware of these two sources of discussion about the two different sources of compensation that seemed to be at play for a few days under Administered Price Caps (APC) following Cumulative Price Threshold (CPT) being reached.
All four mainland regions of the NEM are now under Administered Pricing … with SA and then VIC joining NSW and QLD in quick succession Monday evening 13th June 2022.
The IRPM has dropped again this evening, with drops in Available Generation outpacing drops in Demand.
With NSW under Administered Pricing now (<24 since QLD hit that mark) we look at other regions and who might be next domino to fall.
