Price volatility in South Australia on Thu 16th December 2021 reinforces observations in GenInsights21

We released GenInsights21 yesterday morning.

1)   With this, we established first access to all of those who had previously sent in their pre-orders (thank-you), and

2)  Have delivered all the different files to the printers to get them started on the printed and bound copies that will be delivered as they come off the production time.  To everyone else, you’re able to place your order now.

Whilst focused on other things this morning, my audible alerts from my ez2view dashboard copy notified me of a price spike in the South Australian region for the 10:10 dispatch interval, as captured here in NEMwatch:

As noted, wind has been trending down (and gas generation already down on very low levels by virtue of the synchronous condensers) so it’s not really a surprise to see the yo-yo pricing outcomes as a result.  After all, we wrote about the increased likelihood of this type of outcome in GenInsights21!

The price also remained high for the 10:15 dispatch interval, as captured here in this Layout within ez2view highlighting how these spikes came ‘out of the blue!’:

For those who want to know a bit more about GenInsights21, yesterday PV magazine wrote Variability compounding complexity compounding risk to summarise their own insights generated from their first quick review of GenInsights21.

Get in touch, if you have questions.

Oh, and strap in for the roller coaster ride!
