Callum’s quickly noted ‘Callide C3 & C4 unexpectedly trip’, shortly after it happened on Thursday afternoon 15th January 2026.
Since that time we have been teasing out a few threads, with the aim of posting:
- A few short additions this evening; and
- With a few more tomorrow
In this article we’ll just include a snapshot of the ‘Forecast Convergence’ widget in ez2view taken at 21:15 (NEM time), so a little over 4 hours after the the trip.
We’re looking at the Available Generation for the Callide C station (i.e. aggregated across both units) and we see that, in the most recent ST PASA data update (i.e. the one published for 21:00 this evening) the expected return to service has been pushed back:
1) In the first three updates following the trip, the expected RTS was set as this evening (beginning around this time); but
2) That’s now been pushed back till late Saturday evening 17th January 2026.
There are a few reasons why this might have been done:
1) It might be that the event has caused (or been caused by) some known damage onsite to both units, or some common component?
… or in the broader network outside (i.e. the problem might not be inside the units themselves?).
2) Or it might be partially precautionary, in terms of inspections needing to be done onsite before it being deemed prudent to bring the unit back online?
