Performance profiles and statistical insights for every operating unit in the National Electricity Market.
Description
The Generator Statistical Digest (GSD) is a comprehensive statistical report covering all currently operating generation and storage units in the National Electricity Market (NEM). It is designed to support analysts, investors, asset owners and other stakeholders in understanding unit performance and operational behaviour by combining 10-year historical profiles with detailed 12-month performance metrics.
This edition was released in January 2026 and has been updated for the 2025 calendar year and includes statistical insights into spot and FCAS revenue capture, economic and network curtailment, high-level bidding behaviour, FCAS costs, output profiles, price-setting involvement, rebidding frequency and much more.
The GSD2025 is broken into four parts:
- Section #1: FCAS Bidding Profiles. This section covers all operating units registered to deliver at least one FCAS service. For each service, this section presents charts showing month-to-month FCAS volumes bid across ten price bands from 2016 to 2025, alongside total monthly enablement volumes. A table detailing each unit’s registered FCAS capacity is also included.
- Section #2: Semi-Scheduled Output Profiles and Availability Source. For each operating semi-scheduled unit (such as large solar and wind farms), this section displays a chart of time-of-day output and availability for each month of the 2025 calendar year. Monthly details on UIGF source, and self-forecast suppression are also provided.
- Section #3: FCAS Causer Pays Portfolio. As the FCAS Causer Pays scheme was assessed at a portfolio level up until June 8th 2025 (before being replaced by the new Frequency Performance Payments scheme), this section reports estimated total FCAS Causer Pays costs for each portfolio, with a breakdown of each unit’s contribution to the total up until June 2025.
- Section #4: Unit Profiles. The core of the report. For every operating unit in the NEM, an A and B page is provided. The A page summarises ten years (2016 to 2025) of monthly spot and FCAS revenues, capacity and availability factors, and bid volumes across fourteen price bands, together with tabulated information on unit starts, price setting involvement and other relevant operational and market data. The B page focuses on the 2025 calendar year only and covers spot and FCAS revenues, FCAS costs, average prices, rebid frequency, rebid reasons, top 5 constraints, unit price capture, temperature performance, and much more.
Note: Purchasing this product provides access to the 2025 edition only, and does not include a subscription to past or future editions of this report.
Enhancements
Since the last edition of the GSD (the GSD2024), we’ve made a number of practical enhancements to improve coverage and consistency across the report:
- Frequency Performance Payments (FPP): We've added FPP scheme revenue and cost reporting, reflecting the scheme’s commencement in June 2025.
- Time-of-day profiles: We've added average time-of-day availability and output profiles for each semi-scheduled solar and wind farm.
- Battery unit history tidy-up: We cleaned up unit history following the 2024 IESS changes by combining DUID history for bi-directional units.
- Curtailment metrics for scheduled units: We've moved the network and economic curtailment metrics into the main section of the report (Section #4), meaning these are now shown for scheduled units (e.g. coal, gas, hydro, batteries, etc.) as well.
Further information about these enhancements were covered here.
