Price volatility on Monday evening 11th July with ‘Market Demand’ near 31,000MW

A short article this evening to record some price volatility across all mainland regions – here’s a snapshot from NEMwatch at 18:50 after the >$1000/MWh prices had washed through:

Note here that the IRPM was down to 12% on a NEM-wide basis, highlighting the tightness of supply/demand – the lowest this reached was 10.77% in the 18:20 dispatch interval as highlighted in this run of SMS alerts received on the journey home from the office:

Worth noting that 5 minutes before this point (at the 18:15 dispatch interval) the ‘Market Demand’ across the NEM was up at 30,823MW.
