As alluded to earlier, we were keeping an eye on NEM-wide ‘Market Demand’ to see where it would land, and it turns out the peak for the day was at 30,034MW at 17:05 NEM time today, as captured in this snapshot from NEMwatch:
As noted before, this is the first time it’s peaked above 30,000MW since 24th July 2023.
The region-specific colour coding of demand above shows that this was driven by both:
- The NSW region at 11,673MW (well out of the ‘green zone’ and on the way to the all-time max of 14,649MW); and also
- The QLD region at 8,728MW (even more advanced in relative terms relative to the all-time max of 10,119MW).
It’s only the start of summer (and it’s a long time since we’ve run a ‘who’s the best demand forecaster in the NEM?’ competition … but I do wonder what heights it might reach through summer 2023-24? Alas no competition for this summer, either…
