A short article just to note that curtailment of distributed PV in South Australia is underway on Sunday morning 13th November 2022 as a result of the islanding on Saturday afternoon. We’ll come along later to explain more in a subsequent article.
Here’s a series of three different Market Notices in reverse chronological order – starting with the MN103087 at 09:15 (NEM time) today:

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE
AEMO has taken action(s) to maintain power system security in South Australia at 0730 hrs 13/11/2022 due to a forecast Distributed PV Contingency (DPVC) condition.
AEMO actions may include the recall of planned outages, a direction and/or instruction to scheduled and non-scheduled generation, and/or an instruction to maintain DPV generation below a secure DPV generation threshold.

Notice ID : 103071
Notice Type ID : MARKET INTERVENTION
Notice Type Description : Reserve Contract / Direction / Instruction

Reason :
AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE
AEMO has detected there is an elevated risk of the contingent disconnection of Distributed PV (DPV) with the loss of scheduled generation exceeding secure thresholds in the South Australia region from 0830 hrs 13/11/2022 to 1630 hrs 13/11/2022. The maximum forecast DPV contingency is 285 MW at 1230 and the secure DPV contingency threshold is 80 MW.
AEMO is seeking a market response.
An insufficient market response may require AEMO to take action or intervene to maintain power system security in South Australia. This may result in action such as the direction of scheduled generation, curtailment of non-scheduled wind generation, and/or an instruction to maintain DPV generation below a secure DPV generation threshold.
AEMO estimates the latest time at which it may need to intervene through an AEMO intervention event is 0730 hrs on 13/11/2022.

For interest sake, I’ve added a snapshot from NEMwatch this morning at the 10:00 dispatch interval with a focus on South Australia, and showing (in the supply mix) only AEMO’s estimate for the amount of rooftop solar being injected into the SA region:
More to come later, in subsequent articles…
