Across our team we have a busy focus elsewhere at present (myself included) so we’re only finding snippets of time to explore/explain the price volatility in South Australia on Sunday 21st June 2026 and Monday morning 22nd June 2026.
… but thanks for the questions, for those who are sending them in.
Utilising a pre-prepared ‘Trends Engine’ query from ez2view, I thought I’d share this image of flows (and limits) across the ‘V-SA’ interconnector … which we know (for an interim period until PEC Stage 2 arrives) represents both:
- Flow (and limit) over the old ‘Heywood’ link; and also
- Flow (and limit) over the PEC Stage 1 lines.
Those with a licence to the software can open their own copy of this query here.
For the avoidance of doubt, this excludes Murraylink.
Of interest to many were the two periods highlighted (Sunday evening 21st , and Monday morning 22nd) where exports from VIC to SA were significantly limited compared to other times, coincident with the price separation between regions.
However I’ve also highlighted another period (Saturday evening) when a similar situation arose on V-SA but the price did not pop, to illustrate:
- Despite the fact that we all love a good conspiracy theory
- That what happened in the past 24 hours was just a natural outcome of a move to VRE+Firming regime, with a few ducks lining up…
