System frequency while NSW demand yo-yos

Following our observations of Riding the yo-yo, during NSW market suspension we inspect system frequency during the day.

It has remained within the NOFB.

Yet it has also swung well about the nominal 50 Hz, and well into PFR territory (+ and – 0.015 Hz).

The series in orange is the frequency (Hz) and the blue box highlights the period when the demand oscillations occurred.

A sub-plot using ez2view’s Trends presents NSW market demand (MW) in green for the period of the oscillations, intervals 12:45 to 15:15.
