We’ve already posted two articles about today’s Market suspension in NSW, so here’s one more to the list…
You might recall earlier articles (with respect to different events) about large changes in demand.
… of these events:
(a) some were ‘real’ (i.e. there were actual changes in demand);
(b) but others were ‘phantom changes’ (i.e. due to SCADA glitch, or the like), but that did not stop them having material impacts on NEMDE outcomes down the line.
A number of these such alerts triggered early this afternoon Monday 23rd March 2026 – including these two:
1) Firstly there was a drop in ‘Market Demand’ for the 13:25 dispatch interval (NEM time) … as captured in this ‘Notifications’ widget alert in ez2view:
2) Then there was an even larger rebound in the the 13:30 dispatch interval (NEM time):
We can see the see-saw effect in this snapshot from NEMwatch at 13:50:
Whilst the AEMO has noted that they will be applying Market Suspension Pricing during the period (see the Market Suspension Pricing Schedule here), there’ll be a longer clean-up job required to work out ‘what’s real and what’s not’ in terms of other data, including:
- the output data for different units;
- and then the aggregated data that draws from the unit level data (like ‘Market Demand’).
