Forecast tight supply-demand balance this evening upgraded to forecast LOR3 (i.e. load shedding) in NSW, Thursday 18th December 2025

Yesterday afternoon we wrote ‘Blast of hot weather drives ‘forecast LOR2’ in NSW and SA on Thursday 18th December 2025’.

It’s now early Thursday morning 18th December 2025, and briefly checking this snapshot from ez2view with the three different instances of the ‘Forecast Convergence’ widget, and we see the situation has become more extreme, in some ways:

2025-12-18-at-05-50-ez2view-ForecastConvergence

Top to bottom we see that (at the 05:50 dispatch interval NEM time):

1)  The forecast ‘Market demand’ across the NEM for this evening has climbed just over 32,000MW now;

2)  What was a forecast LOR2 situation for South Australia was downgraded to forecast LOR1 and has now been completely removed

3)  But, on the flip side, NSW now currently sees forecast LOR3 (i.e. Load Shedding) for this evening.
