It’s not really a surprise (given it’s happened on Sunday, on Tuesday and on Wednesday – and that it was expected to be a high solar yield day today), but worth recording that AEMO’s alerted the market that curtailment of distributed PV has commenced in South Australia this morning.
Let’s start with a broader snapshot of market conditions for the 09:50 dispatch interval with NEMwatch:
As highlighted in the snapshot, the AEMO alerted the market via MN103364 at 09:16 that this was commencing:

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE
Update to Market Notice 103337
AEMO has detected there is an elevated risk of the contingent disconnection of Distributed PV (DPV) with the loss of scheduled generation exceeding secure thresholds in the South Australia region from 0900 hrs 17/11/2022 to 1630 hrs 17/11/2022. The maximum forecast DPV contingency is 255 MW at 1230 hrs and the DPV contingency direction trigger is 78 MW.
AEMO is seeking a market response.
An insufficient market response may require AEMO to take action or intervene to maintain power system security in South Australia. This may result in action such as the direction of scheduled generation, curtailment of non-scheduled wind generation, and/or an instruction to maintain DPV generation below a secure DPV generation threshold.
AEMO estimates the latest time at which it may need to intervene through an AEMO intervention event is 0800 hrs on 17/11/2022
