AEMC published Final Rule on Fast Frequency Response (FFR)

Given that Marcelle introduced the AEMC’s draft rule determination from 27th April 2021 in our FCAS goes from fast to very fast article, it’s worth noting that today the AEMC published its Final Rule:

2021-07-15-AEMC-FinalReport-FFR

There is further information about this particular rule change on the AEMC website at this location.

I have only skimmed (very) briefly, but the key points seem to be:

1)  The introduction of two new market ancillary service categories:

(a)  the very fast raise service

(b)  the very fast lower service

2)  A commencement date of 9th October 2023 (i.e. the Rules were a bit more specific than the  ‘2 years and 3 months from the date that the rule is made’)

3)  Lots of the detail passed over to the AEMO to develop as part of a revised market ancillary services specification (MASS) before 19th December 2022 (i.e. the Rules were a bit more specific than the ‘within 18 months of the date that the rule is made’) …

“to specify the detailed description and performance parameters for the very fast raise service and the very fast lower service.”

Will review further, as time permits…
