Looking forward to learning from today/tomorrow’s Australia Wind Energy conference (albeit vicariously)

It’s Wednesday 8th July 2026, which means that it’s today that’s the first day of the ‘Australia Wind Energy 2026’ conference and exhibition in Melbourne:

In the Australian energy sector we’re spoilt for choice with the range of conferences and other events during a winter period I think of as ‘conference season’ … as such unfortunately our team at Global-Roam Pty Ltd*  won’t have any attendees at the event this year.

Learning vicariously … or are you there in person?

Most readers here will know us (at Global-Roam Pty Ltd) as:

1)  the providers of this WattClarity® service

2)  and most readers will also know us as the providers of a range of other licensed products:

(a)  via software (like NEMwatch and ez2view and others);

(b)  but also products, like the annual Generator Statistical Digest, etc.

Fewer readers will remember that a couple years ago we came onboard as a significant shareholder in ETSI, a company specifically focused on assisting Wind Farm operators

1)  since that time, there’s been a few articles tagged here with ‘ETSI’

2)  Including three articles by Jack Fox (one of the early ETSI team members)

There’s a number of the ETSI team members who’ll be at the event, including Jack but also Anthony Hill and Rob Selbie and Andrew Stedwell:

1)  After the event we will look forward to a debrief from these attendees of what they learnt and observed … in turn we will look forward to sharing more here via another ‘Conference Wrap’ style article.

2)  But, if you’re an attendee at the event, feel free to reach out to those people and speak in person?

One sign of the challenges

Entirely by coincident, but fittingly, I opened up the print copy of the AFR this morning and (along with a range of other energy-related coverage) spotted Ryan Cropp’s article ‘Struggling wind farms seek NSW lifeline’.

It’s not a surprise to see an article like this, speaking to the not-so-rosy picture of wind farm challenges in getting to FID.  I expect that today/tomorrow’s conference:

  • Will include discussions (both on the stage and in the corridors) about these concerns, and also
  • Which would be an excellent segue to understanding how the ETSI team could assist in boosting the financial performance (and managing risk) of wind farm assets.
