(A regulated) Basslink has started transferring power, from 16:05 on Thursday 2nd July 2026

We’ve noted before (here and here) that Basslink became a regulated network service provider at midnight beginning Wednesday 1st July 2026.

However there were some initial teething issues in the switch-over (something to do with delivery of data signals, we believe) that meant we needed to wait ~40 hours before it would begin transfers of power under this new regime.

This happened from the 16:05 dispatch interval (NEM time) on Thursday 2nd July 2026.  Utilising an in-development v9.19 of ez2view (which is being released soon to prepare for PEC Stage 2, amongst other things) we take a quick look…

Firstly, here’s the ‘Interconnector Dashboard’ widget focused on the ‘T-V-MNSP1’ facility – showing the ramp up in flows, initially to the south (i.e. negative numbers):

In the dispatch intervals before that, both the Export Limit and Import Limit were wound down to 0MW via the ‘I-BL_ZERO’ constraint set, which we see here via the ‘Constraint Details’ widget:

Note that this constraint set:

1)  Was invoked from 17:05 on Tuesday 30th June 2026 in anticipation of the conversion; and

2)  Prior to that, was last used:

(a)  briefly on 20th March 2026;

(b)  and before that from 20th October 2025 to 24th October 2025.

In this filtered view of the ‘Constraint Sets’ widget, we see the ‘limit to zero’ constraint set plus a few others that will quickly follow as the limits on Basslink are progressively ramped up:

As per the annotations, we see a progressive ramp in capability:

1)  From 0MW (via the ‘I-BL_ZERO’ constraint set)

2)  First to 100MW (such as in 16:05 and 16:10 above via the ‘I-TV_100’ constraint set)

3)  Then to 150MW (via the ‘I-TV_150’ constraint set)

4)  Then to 200MW (via the ‘I-TV_200’ constraint set)

5)  Then to ~450MW:

(a)  via the ‘I-TV_CLPS’ constraint set

(b)  with the limits slightly different in either direction:

i. via ‘Out = Basslink Cable Load Prediction System (CLPS) dynamic rating data unavailable.’

ii.  currently envisaged through until 30th September 2026.
