Belatedly noting 16 winners announced (on Tuesday 16th September 2025) in Capacity Investment Scheme auctions

A short and belated note to highlight the Federal Government’s announcement last Wednesday 17th September 2025 that the ‘Capacity Investment Scheme boosts Australia’s renewable energy future’ – with that media release noting the following:

‘The Minister for Climate Change and Energy has announced the results of Tender 3, focused on adding dispatchable power to the National Electricity Market (NEM).

The successful projects will deliver 4.13 GW (around 15.37 GWh) of capacity, which is enough battery storage to power over 3.5 million homes for four hours during peak demand.’

This was flagged by Minister Bowen on in the release ‘Jobs, skills and community boost in latest renewables capacity surge’ on 16th September 2025 – with that release including the following table summarising the 16 winners:

2025-09-16-MinisterBowen-CIS-Round3-16-winners

In a brief scan, we’d seen this reported in various media outlets, including:

1)  George Heynes had written ‘Over 15GWh of energy storage successful in Australia’s Capacity Investment Scheme Tender 3’ in Energy Storage news on 17th September

2)  RenewEconomy noted:

(a)  Giles Parkinson wrote  ‘Bowen names 16 winners of Australia’s biggest battery storage tender’ on 17th September

(b)  Then Giles Parkinson followed with  CIS battery winners: Some are already off and running, others may take at least a year to get going’ on 17th September

3)  No doubt there was more reporting, but we don’t have time to list here…

In terms of successful project proponents:

1)  we saw that EnergyAustralia noted ‘Successful Capacity Investment Scheme bid powers EnergyAustralia’s battery storage expansion’ on its Media Site.

2)  and no doubt there are other media releases from others as well..
