I’ve been out and about for a while today – but noted that the same* alert configured in ‘Notifications’ within ez2view triggered to notify of a large* (i.e. >400MW) change in ‘Market Demand’ in the NSW region for the 17:15 dispatch interval (NEM time) on Friday 7th February 2025:
* with respect to ‘same alert’ and also ‘large change’ note that:
(a) this is the same alert as what triggered on Friday 31st January 2025, in that case a very large drop in Market Demand (and at that time suspected to be the result of some Data Glitch).
(b) That alert (in ‘Notifications’ within ez2view) has been configured with respect to each region (different thresholds) for a long period of time but has very seldom triggered.
We’ve not got time to look at this now, and may not in future, but thought it worth recording should we ever want/need to dome back to it. Here’s a snapshot of NEMwatch later (at 20:35) that still clearly shows the jump in context:
Paul was one of the founders of Global-Roam in February 2000. He is currently the CEO of the company and the principal author of WattClarity. Writing for WattClarity has become a natural extension of his work in understanding the electricity market, enabling him to lead the team in developing better software for clients.
Before co-founding the company, Paul worked as a Mechanical Engineer for the Queensland Electricity Commission in the early 1990s. He also gained international experience in Japan, the United States, Canada, the UK, and Argentina as part of his ES Cornwall Memorial Scholarship.
Given the tight supply-demand balance forecast for NSW and QLD this week, it’s worth revisiting the ‘Generator Outages’ widget in ez2view at 15:35 on Sunday 24th November 2024 to show what the current status is of generator outage plans
“Surely not again so soon!?” … was my first response at reading MN121734 published at 00:42 (NEM time) on Thursday 12th December 2024, forecasting LOR3 (a.k.a. load shedding) in NSW for Monday 16th December 2024.
