Demand (and price) remain stubbornly high in Queensland over the weekend

The continued heatwave afflicting the sunshine state has generated higher than normal weekend demand levels – and, with the ongoing presence of the 855-871 constraint and the effect of the reduction in capacity available (e.g. 2 units at Tarong, and Collinsville being decommissioned) delivered prices that have remained stubbornly high, as well.

This is all shown in the following snapshot from NEM-Watch:

Demand climbs higher in Queensland on a Sunday, driven by high temperatures

The weather forecast is for cooler conditions this week, with some rain perhaps – so perhaps we’ll be in for some relief (from the demand, and the prices).

  1. Paul, thank you for the analysis. Are you able to talk about the impact of the 855-871 constraint? I’d love to watch you identify it as a culprit in the stubbornly high prices.
