VP5 into the Planned part of it’s lengthy Unplanned-Planned-Unplanned outage

On my commute into work this morning (Friday 3rd October 2025), I noticed this update on LinkedIn yesterday evening from the team at Delta Electricity, speaking about their annual shutdown at Vales Point 5:

For those following along here, you’ll recall that we’d already written a couple articles (collated here) about the (partially planned, partially unplanned) nature of this outage, given that the unit:

  • Came offline on 27th August 2025 citing ‘turbine vibrations’ in the rebid reasons; and
  • Had the length of the outage extended out till 15th December 2025 early in September.

An updated view, in the market data

A glance at one of our large screen dashboard in the office this morning carrying a copy of ez2view with a large percentage of the screen devoted to the ‘Generator Outages’ widget stretched out to show quite a few weeks into the future:

I’ve highlighted in this image how the MT PASA DUID Availability data shows that

  • the planned outage was originally slated to begin this evening sometime (i.e. Friday into Saturday, which is commonly the case for these planned outages)
  • and then extending out till return to service Sunday 9th November 2025 … but we can see in the red squares to the right that this was subsequently extended.

Any updates on the ‘turbine vibrations’?

I’ve scanned very quickly and could not find anything – do any of our readers know anything that they can share?
