On Wednesday 27th August 2025, I noted ‘Several coal units offline (on Wednesday 27th August 2025) with unplanned outages’.
… Since that time:
1) we’ve begun exploring an unplanned outage at Yallourn unit 2 due to ‘LP turbine issues’;
2) and have noted the unplanned outage at Vales Point 5 due to ‘turbine vibrations’.
In this article, I’ve added a snapshot of ‘Bids & Offers’ widget in ez2view from 08:10 dispatch interval (NEM time) this morning highlighting some challenges being encountered at Yallourn Unit 4:
With respect to this 20-day time range in history:
1) The unit had just come offline on Tuesday 26th August, as shown in this snapshot the following day for an unplanned outage
… not shown in the image above (but visible if scrolled upwards) this outage appeared to be due to ‘economiser tube leak’
2) The unit came back online very briefly on Friday 29th August, but came off again at the end of the same day
… with rebids suggesting issues with ‘turbine valves’
3) Then the unit had a few attempts to come back online on Saturday 6th September 2025, but off again Sunday morning 7th September 2025
… with rebids this time suggesting (boiler) ‘tube leak’.
So, all-in-all, not the best run over the past 20 days.
