I’ve not yet had time to fully investigate, but thought it worth recording the sharp drop in frequency that appears to have occurred shortly after 07:30 NEM time on Friday 13th June 2025 – as captured in the following data extract:
Quickly tracking back through pre-configured alerts in the ‘Notification’ stream within ez2view and I see a sharp drop in output (from 500MW to 0MW) at Newport Power Station as captured in this ‘Unit Dashboard’ widget snapshot for the 07:40 dispatch interval (NEM time):
That will have been one reason that prices spiked in VIC, SA and TAS to (more) elevated levels, such as captured here for 07:50 in the earlier article.
PS1 … a more detailed look at frequency (a little later in the morning)
One of the team, who are more proficient than me, have provided me this more focused detailed view of System Frequency around the time of the (suspected) trip:
With the higher-speed (i.e. 100ms) data we have access to from monitoring in our office, we’ve extracted the following time points:
-
The trip at NPS appears to be at 07:35:27s (when the Hz crossed 50)
-
The frequency dropped to a low point of 49.867Hz (i.e. just within the NOFB) at 07:35:32.509
