It’s Sunday morning 9th March 2025 and a reference to the Energex Outage Map shows many more orange splotches denoting unplanned outages … this is particularly noticeable in Brisbane’s northside (where there was nowhere near so many ~24 hours earlier), but there are also new locations in Brisbane’s southside as well.
There’s not yet any media updates from Energex this morning. Last night at 20:00 (NEM time) they published an update that noted:
‘At 7.30pm, 256,000 properties were without power, with the remnants of Alfred beginning to belt areas north of Brisbane as the low pressure system finally crosses onto the mainland.’
In his update this morning via LinkedIn, Anthony Cornelius wrote:
‘Energex had already done some amazing restoration work restoring power to more than 50,000 homes and we saw the outage meter drop to around 240,000. Sadly, that total ticked up with more than 337,000 homes without power last night (though that’s dropped back to 318,000).’
As I hit publish here, the Energex ‘Emergency Outages Text View’ shows 322,772 outages.
Like many people close to the Brisbane River who have been flood affected in 2022 (and also 2011) we’re waiting to see just how much rain there is … when and where. So this is a long way from over…
