Yes, MP2 did come offline in the early hours of Wednesday morning 24th September 2025

Yesterday we wrote about ‘AEMO oscillates warnings – possible need to intervene in NSW on Thu 25th Sept 2025 for System Strength reasons’ … :

1)  with that article noting that Mt Piper Unit 2 was slated to come offline yesterday evening

2)  and the article (and title) updated after publication to highlight that the the AEMO has oscillated the warnings about a shortfall in System Strength in NSW.

Worth a quick note with this snapshot from ‘Forecast Convergence’ in ez2view at 15:00 on Wednesday 24th September 2025 to highlight that Mt Piper unit 2 has been quite consistent in signalling that it needed to come off overnight:

With respect to this image:

1)  Remember that the ‘Grid’ view in ‘Forecast Convergence’ allows one to ‘look up a vertical’ in order to see ‘that other dimension of time’;

2)  With the widget now having more functionality to delve into unit availability* in the new PD/ST PASA timeframe, due to the new PDPASA/STPASA data published by AEMO from 31st July 2025

 * even for Semi-Scheduled assets
(a)  hurrah (at least in PD/ST PASA),
(b)  albeit not yet in MT PASA DUID Availability!

3)  We can see that this unit was very consistent in stating the need to come offline

(a)  originally signalled back at the 17:00 ST PASA run on Wednesday 17th September 2025.

(b)  which was about a week before it came offline

4)  We can just start to see now (right hand side of grid) the expectation that the unit will be back on the morning of Wednesday 1st October 2025.

Flipping to the ‘Bids & Offers’ widget, and again filtering for the MP2 unit but with ‘Bid Stack + Bid Table’ selected, I was hoping to see in the rebid reasons at (or since) 17th September the reason for the outage:

Alas, in a quick scan of bids (above the scroll in this image) nothing jumped out at me … but I do see in the unit was subject to force cooling (which is done when the generator wants to access some high temperature component quickly after coming offline).

We see in the image that the unit was offline by 05:30 this morning.
