Afternoon volatility in NSW on Tuesday 4th February 2025

A quick post with a snapshot from NEMwatch at 15:30 (NEM time) on Tuesday 4th February 2025:

2025-02-04-at-15-30-NEMwatch-NSW-5641bucks

Per the annotations, note that:

1)  The spot price in NSW has jumped upwards:

(a)  and QLD also slightly elevated

(b)  whereas negative prices in the south

… which seems like a familiar pattern

2)  There’s been a sharp ramp up in NSW ‘Market Demand’ in recent dispatch intervals through the afternoon to this point.

3)  We see a spike in output from NSW hydro facilities … without looking, we’re guessing this will be TUMUT3

4)  In parallel with this, we see VIC1-NSW1 flow constrained to flow (strongly!) south.

… again a familiar pattern (in this case, looking offline using ez2view we see the ‘N::N_CTMN_2’ constraint equation in action again today, within the ‘N-CTMN_4_WG_CLOSE’ constraint set)

Nothing further to add…
