Earlier we noted about the ‘Afternoon volatility in NSW, on Wednesday 22nd January 2025’ on a hot day in Queensland and in parts of NSW (although not everywhere). We’re wondering what might happen into the evening, as ‘Market Demand’ climbs with temperatures remaining high but the contribution from solar declining (particularly from rooftop PV, which will decline sooner than Large Solar).
In watching the market, we could not help but notice another colourful representation of DUIDs spread across the three eastern regions in this ez2view snapshot (including the prototype of the ‘Congestion Map’ widget) at the 14:40 dispatch interval (NEM time) on 22nd January 2025:
Note that:
1) There’s currently a network outage on the Bouldercombe to Calliope River (812) line … which is manifest in the ‘Q-BCCP_812’ constraint set … and we can see that the ‘Q>>BCCP_CLWU_RGLC’ constraint equation (within that set) is currently bound.
(a) Many DUIDs in the north with significantly negative Local Price Adjustment (LPA) … driving their CPD Price down to the Market Price Floor;
(b) Many DUIDs in the south-east not-so-significantly affected, delivering a CPD Price in low positive dollars;
(c) A few DUIDs with a positive LPA that acts to help ‘constrain up’ their output.
2) On the ‘QLD Schematic’ widget we can see the effect of this network outage on a number of units across the region over the past couple of hours.
3) Not shown in the image above, but in the ‘Constraint Set Details’ widget, we can see that this constraint set:
(a) Is flagged to only be invoked until 16:00 today
(b) But back again tomorrow for a similar duration.
… so won’t factor in this evening’s outcomes.
Here’s a NEMwatch snapshot at 14:45 (five minutes later):
That’s all for now.
