Statistical Digest, within the Generator Report Card

In preparing the Generator Report Card, we were very keen to be able to provide granular data down to an individual DUID* level for every generator across the NEM (as it turned out, we also covered Scheduled Loads as well as we needed to do so to provide a fuller picture of the operation of storage – both pumped hydro and batteries).

*  for those not so familiar with AEMO lingo, a DUID is a “Dispatchable Unit Identifier” (i.e. a unit).

After numerous iterations in the process we arrived at a page design that enabled us to show one page per DUID, for every DUID for which there was significant operational data reported in AEMO’s MMS database – so including Scheduled (i.e. full bids and targets), Semi-Scheduled (i.e. wind and solar) and Non-Scheduled (i.e. no bids or targets) Generators.  That amounts to 328 pages in total + 2 pages explaining the structure of each page (copied in here, for your reference) + index pages.

In each of these pages (one per DUID) we have condensed a huge volume of information about that unit down into a single page that spans up to 10 years of history till 31st December 2018:

As can be seen, there are three charts on a page – each chart shows monthly data over a 10-year range for the data conveyed.

The table underneath shows annual data – for stats such as operating hours, number of starts, number of hours constrained, Marginal Loss Factors, and significant involvement in setting that region’s (energy) price – remembering the complexity inherent in that.
