Significant drop in Mainland Frequency (Wed 5th Aug 2026) around the time of what appeared to be ‘just’ a Data Glitch

A little while ago we noticed a major gyration in ‘Market Demand’ in the NSW region:

  • Linton was quickly on the task
  • … and wrote up a first quick overview here of what looked (at that time) to be ‘just’ a data glitch.

 

But it turns out that there was a major drop in System Frequency (looks to be well south of the NOFB at first glance) that clarifies that something physical also happened:

We don’t know what happened, yet (and strangely there are no Market Notices, either), so we might wait for ‘next day public’ data to know more – just wanted to flag this here this evening so readers don’t think it was ‘just’ a data glitch.
