Frequency drop with morning trip of Bayswater Unit 1, on Thursday 21st May 2026

We noticed the debilitating uncertainty that the folks at Currently Speaking suffer from (and wrote about here), so we thought we’d take pity on them with this quick note.

The mainland frequency instantaneously dropped somewhat this morning, as we see in this snapshot from our live higher speed (i.e. at 0.1 second cadence) frequency reading:

2026-05-21-at-07-57-NEM-Mainland-Frequency

This was triggered by a trip of Bayswater Unit 1 from 572MW … as captured in the ‘Notifications’ widget alert in ez2view, triggered at 07:56 (NEM time) on Thursday 21st May 2026 here:

2026-05-21-at-07-56-ez2view-Notification-BW01-trip

Also worth noting, given this week’s release of ez2view version 9.18, that the ‘still under development’ mobile app also picked it up:

  1. Love that your alert needs to distinguish the non-rustbucket coal units from YWPS and GPS.
