This is a very short article to note that I’ve been invited to speak next week at the Australian Power Symposium, being organised by ASX Energy:
We’ve been asked to ‘present insights into the Australian spot electricity market’, which means it’s a happy coincidence that our team released the GSD2025 two weeks ago today (Wednesday 28th January 2026).
This is the 8th successive year we’ve produced an annual statistical update (beginning back with the statistical component of the GRC2018), and the document has grown over that time (now totaling 977 pages covering each and every DUID):
- In part because the number of DUIDs operational in the NEM (in ENERGY or FCAS) has increased;
- but also because we’ve been progressively adding more-and-more detail into the report in subsequent annual updates (Dan’s note here speaks to what’s new this year – including a focus on curtailment for all units, not just VRE, for the 2025 calendar year).
I won’t be able to be in Sydney in person (though others in our team are planning to be in the crowd) but will look forward to sharing some insights – it’s not a long timeslot, but we’ll see what we can do…
Time permitting, we might share more thoughts online here as well.
