A quick note on Thursday evening 20th November 2025 to record this large size (214MW) drop in ‘Market Demand’ in the 17:50 dispatch interval NEM time this evening:
This was captured in our ‘Notifications’ widget within ez2view as it happened. For more context of what’s been happening in South Australia, here’s a NEMwatch snapshot:
Clearly the rapid run-up and then drop in ‘Market Demand’ in South Australia (axis on the left) stands out. Was it real, or was it another data glitch?

Hot on the heels of a new record low point for Scheduled Demand (a week ago) in VIC, today sees Scheduled Demand in SA plunge to 315MW in the 11:50 dispatch interval on Sunday 13th September 2020.
Wednesday 28th January saw demand across the NEM jump to unprecedented levels, setting a new record of 34,843MW at 16:00 NEM time. On Thursday 29th January, we saw the demand increase still further, leading to prices that stayed high for much of the day (to the point where the Cumulative Price Threshold was reached in VIC and SA and price caps were imposed), and a relatively small amount of involuntary load shedding occurring in VIC and SA.
Coincident with the walk home this afternoon/evening, the ‘Notifications’ widget in one of our display copies of ez2view alerted us to a large drop of ‘Market Demand’ in the NSW region … at a 937MW drop in the 5 minutes to 17:15 NEM time, so I have taken an initial look
It was a little over 38 hours ago that that we published ‘Forecast for coincident MSL2 on Thursday 1st January 2026 (in Victoria and South Australia)’. So we take an updated look at forecast for ‘Market Demand’ on Thursday 1st Jan 2026.
