The current burst of production at Tamar Valley CCGT coming to an end, on Thu 28th August 2025?

This morning I saw Colin Packham write ‘Drought forces Tasmania to fire up gas plant as hydro output slumps’ in the Australian.

Whilst we’d already noted ‘Tamar Valley CCGT gets a run (late Monday 11th August 2025) ’ a couple weeks ago, Colin’s article also noted:

‘Mr Penny said gas was used last year, and the facility is expected to be shuttered again at some point over the next week.’

So I opened ez2view to have a quick look through that’s visible:

As noted on the image, the data suggests the intention to switch Tamar Valley CCGT off on Thursday afternoon 28th August 2025.  Opening up the pre-configured ‘Trends Engine’ chart within ez2view, we see the the following:

Note that those with their own licence to the software can open their own copy of this query here.

As noted in this image, (assuming that Tamar does switch off this week and does not operate again this year) the operational period will be significantly shorter than it was in winter 2024.
