During the past week, one of our WattClarity readers left a comment here to note that Loy Yang A2 unit was on its way back online on Tuesday 25th October.
1) Readers will recall that the unit has been offline from 15th April 2022 with a (major) electrical fault in the generator … so now over 6 months ago; and
2) That it’s return to service date had slipped back to Thursday 27th October (when I had last looked on Wednesday 12th October).
… so that appeared to be some good news about the unit returning to service, and thought I would have a look…
(A) Two false starts this week
Opening up the ez2view ‘Bids & Offers’ widget, focused just on the LYA2 unit and looking back the past week, this is what I saw:
With this image, we see that the unit had two shots at getting back online on Tuesday 25th October, with the second attempt ending with some ‘auxiliary plant failure’ past midnight leading into Wednesday 26th October.
(B) Now expected back Monday 31st October
Given it was ‘only’ auxiliary plant, I wondered when the unit might now be seeing itself back online, so used the ‘Generator Outages’ widget (newly upgraded for ez2view v9.5) and filtered down to just the coal units, re-sorted to see Brown Coal top of the list, and had a look:
