Mainstream media reports about blades lost at Flyers Creek Wind Farm

A brief, belated and back-dated article to point to the ABC news article ‘Storm-damaged turbine at NSW Central West wind farm raises safety concerns’ by Hamish Cole and Emily Middleton on Monday 22nd September 2025:

The article includes the following:

‘Safety concerns have been raised over turbines at a wind farm in the New South Wales Central West after a blade snapped in half during a storm.

More than a dozen turbines at the Flyers Creek Wind Farm have been switched off after one was damaged due to strong winds.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the owners of the facility, Iberdrola Australia, said the tower’s blade initially suffered damage during a storm in June.

However, they said, after a loss of electric power and strong winds earlier this month, the turbine suffered further damage.

The spokesperson said a series of scheduled and unscheduled inspections at the wind farm regularly occurred.’

This ABC article was referenced by Monash University in ‘Wind turbine blade fails in NSW storm’ on 22nd September, given that Professor Amin Heidarpour (pictured) of Civil and Environmental Engineering talked with ABC Central West news about the incident.

Reporting elsewhere

We also noted that this was reported in other locations – including:

1)  Earlier (on Tuesday 16th September 2025) Joshua Hill had written ‘Turbine blade at newly commissioned wind farm in NSW bent in half by storms’ on RenewEconomy.  That article contained the following note:

‘A wind turbine blade at the newly commissioned Flyers Creek wind farm in New South Wales (NSW) has been bent in half as a result of storm damage.

The damage first occurred in June, and worsened last week, but was first reported, it appears, by Channel 7 Central West on Monday, and its vision shows that the turbine blade can be seen bent back in on itself.’

… and…

‘“The wind turbine blade initially suffered damage during a storm in late June and since that time it had been removed from service, with an exclusion zone established.

“On Wednesday 10th September a combination of a loss of electrical power and strong winds cause further damage to the blade. This was promptly identified by our site team and the exclusion zone around the turbine was expanded.’

2)  On Wednesday 17th September 2025, Recharge News included the article ‘GE Vernova turbine blade bent in half at Iberdrola wind farm’ by Cosmo Sanderson.
