In the interests of full disclosure, I also note that I am one of the lucky ones who was able to install a large PV system at home and secure the Queensland Government’s generous 44c/kWh feed-in tariff.
At the start of the year, Bruce Mountain published some analysis that showed that on average, residential solar PV owners did not receive a windfall gain – however Bruce’s analysis did point out that the situation would vary from customer to customer depending on factors such as:
1) The specifics of the feed-in arrangement (there are many of those);
2) The size of the system
3) The geographical location in the country,
4) The technology used (and cost paid for it); and
5) Local factors (e.g. inclination to the sun, direction of the roof, shade cover etc…)
