A 426MW drop in ‘Market Demand’ in Victoria, on Friday morning 9th October 2026

It does not seem like it was too long ago that we reset the alert level on ‘large change in demand’ events for each region of the NEM:

1)  the alert level is set at 400MW for ‘Market Demand’ in QLD, NSW and VIC

2)  with smaller changes in SA and TAS).

… but perhaps it’s time to upgrade this again, given the increasing volatility in demand we’re seeing (in large part because of the various changes in the Consumer Energy Resource space).

Earlier this morning (Friday 9th October 2026) we documented a 512MW (or ~9%) drop in the QLD Region, within a single dispatch interval.  A few hours later – at the 10:25 dispatch interval (NEM time) – our ez2view alerts recorded a 426MW drop in ‘Market Demand’ in VIC … as recorded here:

Here’s a NEMwatch snapshot at 10:40 (NEM time) to highlight.

Also documented is another small gap in the ‘Fuel Mix’ data, which is related to another bout of slowness in the AEMO data feed we’ve documented on our Service Status Page.
