Waratah BESS commences full commercial operations

We’re not the only ones who noticed Akaysha Energy’s announcement yesterday (Monday 28th September 2026) that ‘Waratah Super Battery reaches final commercial operations’.

Reporting elsewhere

We saw, for instance, NSW Energy Minister Penny Sharpe noting this on LinkedIn here:

Also we saw Giles Parkinson had written ‘“It tested us in many ways:” Australia’s most powerful battery finally completed after lengthy delays’ on RenewEconomy.

In the Market Data

To sum up what’s changed over that period, and a little further back, here’s almost 3 years of daily stats for the WTAHB1 unit via this ‘Trends Engine’ query in ez2view:

For those with a licence to the software, you can create your own copy of this query here.

For context:

1)  We see the earlier period of operations to October 2025, during which time the output briefly reached the full Maximum Capacity of the unit before experiencing transformer failure.

2)  I’ve noted:

(a)  that it was Friday 7th November 2025 when we questioned ‘What’s up with Waratah BESS (unplanned outage till 3rd May 2026)?’ following a data update in MT PASA DUID Availability

… which started a series of articles collated here about the lengthy unplanned outage.

(b)  it was ~2 weeks later when we wrote ‘Further thoughts (and questions) about Waratah BESS, two weeks after the snowball started to roll…’ – including about the transformer failure on 18th October 2025

… though we did not notice until a couple weeks later.

3)  Since March 2026, the capability of the battery has been progressively tested at higher levels … sometimes noted here.
