Curious about the Quorn Park Hybrid station in NSW? I was…

Frequent readers here will understand that there are plenty of rabbit holes in NEM operations, for those so inclined.

We’re sometimes tempted too delve in, and so it was today …

I skimmed through Giles’ article ‘The NEM’s first solar battery hybrid is sending power to the grid at 10pm, and helping reshape the energy game’ about the Quorn Park Hybrid* facility in NSW (which Giles notes officially opens today) so

  • I thought I’d dip my toe in the water
  • and, at the same time, check out some of what the team have been working on for the v9.20 release of ez2view with a pre-release copy I’m running.

* see Ellise’ diagram of ‘The Power Station of the Future’.

So here, quickly are four snapshots from the ez2view v9.20 pre-release copy to quickly look at recent operations …

For the QUORNPSH station ID

Via the ‘Station Dashboard’ widget we see the following view – back 4 days and forward 2 days on Thursday 27th August 2026 at 10:45 NEM time:

2026-08-27-at-10-45-ez2view-StationDashboard-QuornParkHybrid

Note that the green text on the display about a ‘curious discontinuity’ :

  • is related to one of the quirks of the AEMO’s data sets for Semi-Scheduled units … which don’t have as-bid PASA avail in PD/ST PASA (see below)
  • whereas batteries (and other Scheduled units) do
  • so, when aggregating up, presents something that might initially confuse the user.

Something for us to think about in design of a hybrid-specific idiosynchracy in this widget…

With the ‘94T’ constraint bound…

We see (as noted above) that the System Normal form of the ‘94T’ constraint (a.k.a. the ‘N>NIL_94T’ constraint equation’) is bound, so click through to the ‘Constraint Dashboard’ widget for that constraint (now at 10:50 NEM time):

This constraint:

  • is certainly not a friend (more like a nightmare) for the operators of the Molong and Manildra Solar Farms (which, true to form, are constrained off at 11:00 NEM time today)
  • … but we see both DUIDs for Quorn Park a little further down on the Left-Hand-Side:
    • With the bound constraint driving Local Price down to –$1,000/MWh
    • But with the (solar farm) unit still getting some volume away, presumably by bidding down at the Market Price Floor.

Clicking through to each of the DUIDs in turn, we see the following…

For the Quorn Park Solar Farm unit

Now looking at a ‘Unit Dashboard’ widget for the QPSFB1 DUID, we see the following:

2026-08-27-at-10-50-ez2view-UnitDashboard-QuornParkSolar

Like for many Semi-Scheduled units (especially the newer ones without the legacy long-dated PPAs that excluded negative pricing clauses) we see a pattern of bidding whereby:

For the Quorn Park Solar BESS unit

Now looking at a ‘Unit Dashboard’ widget for the QPSFB2 DUID, we see the following:

Interested to see the relatively narrow buy-sell spread in the dispatch interval sampled here (back at 20:45 on Wednesday 26th August 2026).

Plenty of questions there (though not published here) that we could dig into later, if we were to slip further into this rabbit hole…
