Yallourn Power Station no longer bidding FCAS services (as seen via GSD2025)

With the pace of change (and the occasional hiccups) in the energy transition, the value of the annual release of the Generator Statistical Digest increasingly comes to the fore … a chance to sit back and flip through the ~1,000 pages of stats (literally in hard-copy, or on screen)

… Given I’ve been away a bit (including when the GSD2025 was release on 28th January 2025), I’m a little slower than in prior years at flipping the pages.

One of the (many!) things that jumped out to us with the GSD2025 was the confirmation, now we have data for the full 2025 calendar year added in, that all four units at Yallourn Power Station continued the pattern of late 2024 in ceasing to offer any of the 10 x FCAS markets.

For those wanting a deeper dive into the machinations of the FCAS markets:

  • You would gain value in reading through Alex Leemon’s guest authored (a provocatively titled!) article ‘Who killed FCAS?’ that was published last week; and
  • I understand that Linton (and perhaps others) are also drawing out other insights in articles soon to come.
