The yo-yo cases of Available Generation in the QLD region through Sunday 12th June and Monday 13th June 2022

As note (5) in this morning’s first article, I highlighted the yo-yo-ing (if that’s the word) of Available Generation in the QLD region through the night following the commencement of Administered Pricing from 18:55 on Sunday.

In this article I’m just going to tabulate a list of these events, with the idea that (time permitting) each of these might be explored in a separate article and linked back in here as they are published:

Event Number Description

Instance #1

The first case of ‘Actual LOR2’ occurred immediately prior to the reaching of the CPT.

Because this happened prior to the Administered Pricing, I’m not proposing to delve into this one (at least, it’s not top of the list).

Instance #2

The second instance was noted here on Sunday night.

The drop in AvailGen was roughly 21:35 and the increase was roughly 21:55.

Here’s a first quick review of what I could see that happened in this ‘Instance #2’.  Apologies if I missed something, or misinterpreted – lots going on.

Instance #3

The third instance was noted here on Sunday night.

The drop in AvailGen was roughly 22:15 and the increase was roughly 22:30.

Here’s a quick review of what I could see that happened in this ‘Instance #3’.

Instance #4

The fourth instance was after I’d given up watching for the night, so no record of it directly.

The drop in AvailGen was roughly 23:10 and the increase was roughly 23:30.

We’ll explore this further later….

Instance #5

The fifth instance was in the very early hours of the morning.

The drop in AvailGen was roughly 00:30 and the increase was roughly 01:00 Monday morning.

We’ll explore this further later….

Instance #6

The sixth instance was prior to sunrise this morning.

The drop in AvailGen was roughly 05:30 and the increase was roughly 06:05 Monday morning (though note these ones are more complicated by the normal increase in AvailGen you’d expect to see every morning).

We’ll explore this further later….

Instance #7

The seventh instance was prior to sunrise this morning.

The drop in AvailGen was roughly 06:35 and the increase was roughly 07:00 Monday morning (again complicated by the normal increase in AvailGen you’d expect to see every morning).

The NEMwatch snapshot included in this article earlier showed what appears to be a cycle of:

Step 1 = withdrawal of capacity, so AvailGen drops.

Step 2 = AEMO declares ‘Actual LOR2,

Step 3 = AEMO Direction to some participant (or participants)

Step 4 = Available Generation returns

We’ll explore this further later….

That’s all in this article…
