We’re not going to get into the habit of noting each time it happens (as it is likely to be of increasing frequency), but given the general interest in what happened last weekend, worth noting that Saturday 11th October 2025 saw Bayswater Unit 2 perform the two-shift shuffle again – as captured in a series of ‘Notification’ widget alerts in ez2view:
From this we see that:
The unit came off in the 5-minute period prior to 08:06 (NEM time); and
Was back online in the 5-minute period prior to 14:06 (NEM time); and
Here’s the ‘Bids & Offers’ widget in ez2view filtered to BW02 and looking back 30 days:
A drop to lower load on Monday 15th September 2025 that we did not investigate (in part because it coincided with the CEC’s 2025 QCES, that we have written about).
Paul was one of the founders of Global-Roam in February 2000. He is currently the CEO of the company and the principal author of WattClarity. Writing for WattClarity has become a natural extension of his work in understanding the electricity market, enabling him to lead the team in developing better software for clients.
Before co-founding the company, Paul worked as a Mechanical Engineer for the Queensland Electricity Commission in the early 1990s. He also gained international experience in Japan, the United States, Canada, the UK, and Argentina as part of his ES Cornwall Memorial Scholarship.
Not seeing any obvious blip in system frequency (at the time BW02 came offline on Sat 4th Oct 2025) we also looked at the similar outage on Sun 5th Oct 2025.
Tristan Edis of Green Energy Markets discusses the practicalities of the gap that must be filled by the gas sector under the nuclear power timeline proposed by the Federal Opposition.
It’s not the first time that it’s happened in the history of the NEM, but worth noting that we’re (temporarily) down to 1 x Bayswater unit online at present on Tuesday 15th April 2025.
Earlier this morning, we posted about deeper LOR3 forecast for Mon 16th and Tue 17th Dec 2024 … and promised to take a look at ‘what’s changed?’. That’s what we do here.
