Newport Power Station running, with Yallourn’s yips yielding 1 unit operations

We noticed Bruce Mountain’s comments on LinkedIn here about Newport power station running overnight – into Wednesday morning 10th September 2025:

Bruce’s image shows the trended operation of the 4 x YWPS units over a few recent months, and Bruce uses this to question about the looming closure of Yallourn.

So I thought it would be useful context to show more context, with this ‘Bids & Offers’ widget view in ez2view showing:

  • ~90 days worth of data;
  • With trended bid stack for Newport Station at the top and Yallourn Station at the bottom:

From this we can see that:

1)  It’s actually not all that infrequent that Newport gets a run;

2)  Whilst that does coincide with low output from Yallourn at times, there were also times in 2025 when both were producing at the same time.
