A short, belated and back-dated article to point to a series of articles about the Liberty Bell Bay Smelter in Tasmania:
1) On Monday 19th May 2025 we noted several articles:
(a) There was an article ‘Liberty Bell Bay smelter in Tasmania’s north enters ‘limited operations’, no ‘forced redundancies’’ by Jessica Moran via the ABC news
(b) And we also saw it reported in the AFR in the article ‘Sanjeev Gupta’s Tasmanian plant is the latest smelter to hit trouble’ by Simon Evans.
… both these articles seemed to suggest that limited operations had started (or, at least, that was my reading at the time)
2) Then on Tuesday 20th May 2025 we noted this ABC news article ‘Liberty Bell Bay workers forced to take time off worry about financial future’ written by Jessica Moran:
Further into this article, it was noted some key dates:
‘Mr Flanagan said the limited operations period will commence on June 16 and is scheduled to end a month later on July 13.
“It is possible the date will extend, but it’s expected the limited operations will end on July 13,” he said.
The union is meeting with GFG-Alliance tomorrow to discuss the worker’s concerns.
At this stage, the company said there will be no forced redundancies.’
