Background information to the shortage of capacity in winter 2007
Following from the interest generated in the article published in the AFR, we completed some analysis of the trend in IRPM over the history of the NEM up until June 2007.
The results of this analysis revealed that at no time before 2007 had the IRPM even dropped below 12% and that, except for the 2-day period (19th and 20th June) the IRPM had not dropped below 10%.

Have generators backed carbon out of their bids post 30 June – but prior to the repeal passing?
Have generators already removed the carbon tax from their bids, in July 2014 – and is this the reason why we observed prices plunging on 1st July?

Diving deeper (part 2), about low demands on Saturday 29th August 2020
Prompted, in part, by yesterday’s record low for Victorian demand, today I have finished off my earlier review of what happened on Saturday 29th August (8 days earlier) when demand levels also dropped in VIC, and right across the NEM.
